Hesitation at the Gate
Hesitation at the Gate is a game of chasing enlightenment. Your character will have goals, motivations, and relationships. Their skills will be honed and tested. Friendships will blossom and wither away. The world will fight back at them for daring to dream. There will be great successes and tragic failures.
The System
Hesitation at the Gate is a Tarot-based roleplaying game with an innovative trick taking resolution system. Two to six players can run one-shots, short, or long scale campaigns. A session takes 45-90 min of play. The only things required to play are character sheets and a Tarot deck.
Included with the game are:
- Stunning art of the tarot infused Renaissance by Jabari Weathers
- Classless character building rules to create a Seeker: a character with lifelong goals, relationships to NPCs, and skills from sword-fighting to engineering to spell weaving
- Rules to create a mystical Order: the group that all the characters are members of that will establish their place in the world and provide shared resources for everyone.
- Rules to craft spells and wonderous inventions
- An intuitive trick-taking system to resolve any type of conflict with suited cards or powerful arcana
- Collaborative worldbuilding prompts for politics, magic, and monsters
- GM and player tools for getting the most out of the game

The Setting
The adventures in Hesitation at the Gate take place in a single, expansive city-state. Characters work together within a mystical order, form relationships, and craft wonderous inventions. Characters may travel to exotic lands or relocate their home base, but they will always have a headquarters that ties them to the locale.
Find your Truth
No matter how far you go, the ultimate challenge will patiently wait for you to arrive. When all foes are conquered and all dangers escaped, will it be worth it? When you stand before the gates of Truth, will you be satisfied with the path that has brought you there?
